It was in the heart of Milan’s Brera district that TOMA's creative workshop opened in 2008 under the guidance and expertise of Elena Cristina Toma. The first collection appeared during Milan Fashion Week Autumn-Winter 2009-2010.

After the Milan debut, the collections were shown in Paris, Tokyo, Shanghai and Munich, presenting TOMA's design, conceived as "a piece of cloth", to both East and West.

The objective is products as a vehicle of a comfortable relationship with the body, first of all, which are in harmony with the other clothing enhancing the body’s lines and movements.

The footwear and accessory collections as a whole are aimed in particular at women, but also at male elegance.

In order to achieve its mission, TOMA is committed to controlling, innovating and renewing its success factors:

- savoir-faire, like craftsmanship, the heart of art, made of mastery and experience.

- the selection of materials carefully sourced from leading companies: nappa leather, silk, exclusive precious materials such as crocodile, lizard, metals and semi-precious stones.

- the identification and selection of colours with one eye on cultural stimuli and the other on trends.

- teamwork: it takes more than two hundred operations to make a pair of shoes, from cutting, to assembly, right up to the entirely hand-stitched sole, with cutters, pliers, nails...

Elena Cristina Toma's conception of her footwear models is based on a fusion of cultural styles, those of her specific training with those of her lengthy study and practice of the Japanese arts of writing (shodo), ikebana, and painting, as a "path" (dò) towards continuous improvement (kaizen), which also inspire her aesthetic concepts.

The design of the models in the TOMA shoe collections means that, in addition to comfort in use, they can also be contemplated as small works of art.

After all, this has always been the secret of success in the world of Made in Italy, of which TOMA is an interpreter and trailblazer.
